Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are the components of the RoadwarrioR Platform system?
- The Platform consists of 2 slide-out supports (which house folding safety bars and girders); 2 Platform floor planks; 1 safety cable; 1 enclosed carrier mounted transversely under the trailer.
Q. From what materials is the work surface made?
- The floor planks are made of the same sturdy magnesium castings as our durable RoadwarrioR walkramps. With proper care and maintenance, the Platform will last the life of your trailer.
Q. What model should I choose?
- There are three models available.
- Platform R3 ITF – installed In The Floor by the OEM
- Platform R4 – installed under the trailer by the OEM or retrofit
- Platform R4 ITF – installed In The Floor by the OEM
Q. Does the platform come in different sizes?
- Yes. These include.
- Platform R3 ITF: 44" x 42"
- Platform R4: 44" x 48" – 44" x 60"
- Platform R4 ITF: 44" x 48" – 44" x 60"
Q. How is the system mounted to the trailer?
- ITF (In The Floor) models are installed in the trailer floor by the OEM. The R4 is installed under the trailer by the OEM or retrofitted.
Q. How much floor cavity space is required for in-floor installation?
- The system can be mounted in-floor using as little as 2.5" to 4" of space, depending on the model.
Q. How is the system stored during transit?
- The two Platform floor planks store in an enclosed carrier mounted transversely under the trailer. The supports – which also house the fold-up safety bars and rising girders (where applicable) – are built into the trailer and slide out for assembly and slide in and lock for transit.
Q. How is the system assembled?
- Driver opens and pins back the side door.
- Slides out the two Platform supports from the trailer.
- Raises the safety bars, which in the under-trailer model elevates the self-leveling girders
- Opens carriers for ramp and Platform.
- Removes Platform floor planks and places them on the supports.
- Pushes in the supports flush with the trailer.
- Attaches RoadwarrioR or SidekicK ramp or SideStep Ladder to Platform toward front or rear of trailer.
- Attaches safety cable between safety bars.
Q. How long does it take to assemble and disassemble the Platform?
- The entire process of Platform assembly, disassembly and storage can be accomplished in about three minutes.
Q. What are the main benefits of the Platform?
- Cost savings. One set of modular Platform flooring planks can be used per trailer, instead of having to install a slide-out platform at each door. In addition, the ease of one person downstacking products onto the large Platform can eliminate the need to deliver product in two-man teams.
- Safety. The Platform features the same aggressive traction surface as the RoadwarrioR ramp, ensuring sure-footing for the driver from the trailer to the Platform to the walkramp. This eliminates the need for steep ladders, narrow steps and small work areas.
- Productivity. A driver can assemble the Platform in about three minutes, providing for quick and efficient product offloads.
- Forward of Landing Gear Solution. Because the floor planks stow in their own carrier and the support arms slide into the trailer, the RoadwarrioR Platform can be installed by OEMs at the forward of the landing gear for access to the frozen compartment.
Q. How much do the floor planks weigh?
- The weight of the planks varies slightly depending on the Platform size. Max weight on the largest Platform is 27 lbs per plank.
Q. What is the load rating of the Platform?
- Rated between 1,500-2,000 lbs, the RoadwarrioR Platform is stronger than competing systems and easily exceeds the weight of a driver, loaded hand truck and any product staged for offloading.
Q. Will the in-floor installation de-rate the trailer floor?
- No. The installation does not compromise any structural components of the trailer floor. Since the support bars only require 6 inches of space, they are mounted next to the I-beams in the trailer floor making it unnecessary to remove any structural components.
Q. Where can I attach my RoadwarrioR or SidekicK ramp or the SideStep Ladder?
- The Platform is engineered to receive the apron bolts from a RoadwarrioR, SidekicK or SideStep. The ramp can be attached parallel to the trailer toward the front or rear.
Q. How many offloading options are available with the system?
- There are four offloading options with the ultimate trailer access solution making it one of the most versatile systems on the market.
- Platform with ramp
- Platform with ladder
- Ramp only
- Ladder only
Q. What about food product integrity?
- Reducing the time a trailer door is open and the number of times the product is handled keeps temperature-sensitive produce from the heat, ensuring product integrity.
Q. How will the Platform affect productivity?
- Delivery times will be reduced. Product will be handled only once, as it can be downstacked directly to the hand truck on the Platform floor and offloaded down the ramp. In addition, the Platform allows the ramp to run parallel to the front or rear of the trailer. This creates a smaller footprint in the parking lot, and virtually eliminates the need to move a trailer numerous times for offloading product.
