Q. What is an LED?

  1. An LED (Light Emitting Diode) is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when electrical current passes through it; the diode is made from a thin wafer consisting of silicone and other chemicals that give the diode its color.

Q. Why is LED technology more energy efficient than incandescent technology?

  1. LED technology uses less energy to generate the same amount of light.  Incandescent electrical energy produces light and also significant heat. LED electrical energy produces light and very little heat.

Q. Does LED lighting cost less to operate than traditional halogen and incandescent lighting?

  1. Yes. LEDs last 30-50 times longer than halogen bulbs, draw 80% less amps than incandescents, and are maintenance free, so they are less costly to operate and have a lower total cost of ownership than other types of lighting systems. 

Q. Why does a LED lamp have 30 -- 50 times the life of an incandescent lamp?

  1. The heat created from high voltage incandescents causes degradation and rapid product failure of components. Low voltage incandescent is better, but LED is best. LEDs generate very little heat and therefore, have a longer life -- a rated average working life of 100,000 hours compared with 1,000 hours for incandescent bulbs.

Q. What level of maintenance is required of R·O·M's LED lights?

  1. LEDs are maintenance free. With proper care, they'll last the life of your vehicle.

Q. Can my vehicle be easily modified to use the LED Compartment Lighting?

  1. Yes. LED Compartment Lighting is completely retrofittable with your current R·O·M lighting system.

Q. Why should we consider switching to LED technology?

  1. Over a five-year period, the cost of ownership of LED lamps is less than one-fifth of incandescent lamps. The resulting savings includes maintenance, labor and energy costs.

Q. What color of light does R·O·M LED Compartment Lighting emit?

  1. Most people describe our LEDs as having a cool blue brightness that appears very white in color. This coloring contrasts significantly with most yellow-toned halogen bulbs.

Q. Why do LEDs withstand road vibration and shock better than halogens?

  1. Because there are no moving parts and no filaments in LEDs.

Q. How well do LEDs resist moisture penetration?

  1. Extremely well, because each diode is sealed in an epoxy-filled housing.

Q. Can I use R·O·M LED Compartment Lighting when my vehicle is idling?

  1. Yes. Our LED light strips operate in a range from 5.0 - 16.5 VDC so they continue to work when the vehicle is idling, and put very little strain on the vehicle battery even when the engine is turned off.
