Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What does LED stand for?
- Light Emitting Diode. An LED is a semiconductor device that emits visible light when electrical current passes through it; the diode is made from a thin wafer consisting of silicone and other chemicals that give the diode its color.
Q. Has LED technology been used in the food distribution industry before?
- Yes. Trailer OEMs have recognized the advantages of LEDs on exterior lighting for many years. Advances in the technology now make LED interior lighting a practical option as well.
Q. Why is a better lit trailer important?
- Several reasons. First, drivers and workers have to be able to quickly read labels when loading and offloading the trailer – without having to handle a cumbersome flashlight. Second, drivers need the peace of mind of knowing that they won’t be in an unsafe setting with insufficient light to provide safety. And third, you need your trailers working, not waiting for lamp changes or other maintenance requirements of an inefficient lighting system.
Q. Will LEDs last longer than my current fluorescent dome lights?
- Yes, with proper care and maintenance, the DuroLumen can last the life of your trailer. That saves in the cost of replacement lamps, eliminates the need to constantly change burned-out bulbs, and means you won’t have to redline trailers because of a lack of interior lighting.
Q. What differentiates DuroLumen from competing LEDs?
- DuroLumen offers the optimal balance between efficient light output and low power consumption.
- A more robust, durable housing on our system protects against damage in the trailer from product and vertical load bars.
- DuroLumen’s clear lens offers better lighting than the diffused lens of competing systems.
Q. Will the DuroLumen System help reduce the frequency of drawn-down batteries?
- Yes. LEDs save power because they draw less amps. For example, a DuroLumen fixture draws 1.25 amps compared to 2.5 amps for fluorescent fixtures and 2.1 amps for competing LEDs. This leaves more power available for other mission-critical needs.
Q. Can the system meet the rigors of the food distribution environment?
- LEDs perform much better in reefer settings than do other systems. LEDs require no heat strips, they illuminate immediately with no delayed start-up time, and their solid-state technology means there are no moving parts which make them able to withstand road vibration.
Q. Do LEDs interfere with RFID?
- Unlike fluorescents, LEDs do not emit radio interference.
Q. Can I retrofit the DuroLumen System on my current fleet?
- Yes, the system easily retrofits to existing trailer light fixtures.
Q. What is the temperature range of the DuroLumen System?
- The system operates in a temp range of –25 degrees F to 150 degrees F.
